Our Welkom practice opened in 2003 and was initially located at the old Ernest Oppenheimer Hospital after which they relocated to Welkom Industrial after the closure of the hospital in 2013. The practice recently relocated again to Doorn in Welkom.  

Our occupational- and physiotherapists work in a multi-disciplinary team, in order to asses and treat all orthopaedic-, neurological related injuries and medical conditions, including hand pathologies, back – and spinal conditions.

Our occupational- and physiotherapists treat all in-patient referrals at the hospitals in Welkom, including ICU.

Our occupational- and physiotherapists work at the RMA-facility in Welkom, where they assess and treat subacute spinal- and long term orthopaedic conditions, such as amputations. Daily programs are being conducted to the custodians with the aim of skills development and life skills.

Work hardening and functional capacity evaluations are conducted as part of vocational rehabilitation. Learnership-assessments as part of pre-placement screening for artisans, every two months.

The following orthopaedic specialists attend to clinics at the practice weekly (Dr JJ de Wet – on Mondays, Dr Muhammad on Wednesdays, Dr van Sittert on Fridays) and see all new referrals, as well as current patients at the practice where progress is discussed and suggestions to treatment-programs are made between the specialist and the therapists.

Occupational therapists also assess and treat children with:

• School readiness problems;

• Concentration problems resulting in scholastic problems such as reading, writing and doing maths;

• Emotional- and anxiety problems; and

• Low muscle tone.

All the OT’s are qualified in play-therapy and go out to schools to do assessments at most of the pre-primary schools in- and surrounding Welkom.

Our occupational therapists do disability assessments for insurance companies, such as Old Mutual, Momentum, Discovery, Liberty, etc., as well as Sentinel and WCA.

We also conduct Medico-legal assessments for lawyers, of which most are for the Road Accident Fund.​
