Workability Assesment &
Learnership pre-placement screening
The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) defines a learnership as “a work-based programme that leads to an NQF registered qualification”.
Learnerships are directly related to a specific occupation or field of work and are managed by Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs). Learnerships provide both employer and worker with the opportunity for skills development.
The employer trains workers in the skills they need, while the worker gains skills that lead to a NQF registered qualification that enhances his/ her work opportunities. A company can offer learnerships to their existing staff or to unemployed people to enable them to gain skills and work experience. Learnerships holds various financial incentives for employers including access to funding from the respective SETAs and tax rebates called “learnership allowances”, which are paid each time a learnership is started and successfully completed. Learnerships are also a good way to boost an employer’s B-BBEE score card as skills development has been identified as a priority element with a minimum 40% threshold required.
